In Alberta, indoor relative humidity should typically remain between 30% and 35% during mild winter periods, and be adjusted down to 20% to 25% when outdoor temperatures drop below -20°C or -30°C. Flow through bypass humidifiers are reliable, energy efficient, and cost effective for small to medium sized homes with standard gas furnaces. Fan powered humidifiers deliver higher moisture output and perform exceptionally well in larger homes or properties heated by heat pumps. For large custom residences or homes with extensive hardwood and delicate musical instruments, steam humidifiers offer the highest capacity and work independently of heating cycles.
